My Story
So…. WHO IS TARA SUTTON ROBERTS?
Well, hey! I’m Tara…obvi…I am the writer, blogger/publisher and owner behind this website/blog (tarasuttonroberts.com).
Here’s some bullet points of who I am:
-I’m a Millennial who was born and raised in Austin, Texas – (a unicorn to most’s ears when they hear this…due to all the Cali transplants…no hate on Cali…I actually lived in Los Angeles for my 21st year of life and attended film school at Cal State.)
-I graduated from college at Texas State in San Marcos in the winter of 2010 with a BBA in Marketing.
-I almost majored in math because I truly wanted to become an astronaut. Although the thought of becoming a pilot was exhilirating, the fear of piloting a fast jet was overwhelming as I didn’t think I would ever have the upper body strength to accomplish this in the Air Force…however, I did utilize my math skills to finance my college life by becoming a math tutor. I tutored underprivileged students in the downtown Los Angeles area for the No Child Left Behind project. It was truly a humbling and honoring experience. I later tutored high school kids in Algebra I&II in the Central Texas area.
-During my senior year of college, I took 20 hours my spring semester, tutored kids in math, had a Sports Marketing internship for an indoor football team called the Austin Turfcats, as well as work 20 hours at the local college restaurant on campus….it was a lot! Probably too much…But I had a goal and was playing catch-up from some of my course work not transferring back over from Cal State to Texas State. My goal was to graduate in the year 2010 when I was slated to from the beginning.
-After graduating college in December 2010 with a BBA in Marketing from Texas State University (Go Bobcats!), I got a job a couple months later working for an advertising agency in downtown Austin, Texas (my hometown). I felt very lucky landing this job as the job market at that time was still negatively impacted by the 2008 recession. I remember having an Economics class in the fall of 2008 in Los Angeles and the professor told us to stay in college as long as we could…I knew I couldn’t do that like some of these Nepo babies can but that remark stuck with me for a long time even today. At this advertising agency, I was their media planner and buyer representing international, national, regional, and local brands in their daily and annual marketing and advertising efforts.
College was where I learned the foundation of what I do now. This advertising agency was where I learned the tricks of the trade and how to actually execute things on a daily basis, knowing the science and numbers behind it. After a few years, I eventually moved on to explore my options and spread my wings. I went on to briefly work with HCB Health & Advertising as their media planner before moving on as the digital media planner at LatinWorks now called ThirdEar all in the Austin area.
-In 2013 I met the love of my life. A few short years later we were married with a family.
-After welcoming our first born, after bout six months I was working part-time when I decided to start my own side gig business. A small town marketing management and design company. I had a lot of customers right off the bat and had a successful run for five straight years. I still take on clients every few months.
-In 2017, I developed a lifestyle blog that was successful but realized I was too broad on my niche and didn’t necessarily have expertise in the area I was working in which was psychology and the mindset. Although I use all the principles I learned in my current business today, ultimiately I was working off my passion for the niche and not thinking in a business minded way. So I wanted to direct my focus to my brand and what it represents showcasing my skills, knowledge, and background.
-In 2019, I got into day trading and currency trading. I learned a lot and took it all in however it was mostly a distraction and detour to what I had originally set out to do.
-In 2020, the world shut down but I was busy welcoming my second child into the world.
-In 2021, I continued to focus on my main client and get multiple additional clients per month based on the availability I had at the time. From my day job, my mom job, and all of these side jobs, I was swamped.
-After finally taking a break from the corporate world this past year, I have revamped my website and restarted on this journey again in 2026. I may have started and stopped several times, but it’s the not giving up part that actually matters.
